The Madras Song
This is just NO Ordinary Song but Song of the Millennium. When I first got an invite about the pre launch of this song, I was amazed because it was from one of the leading Corporate Houses in India – Murugappa Group. I have known their brands since my childhood and Lacto King, one of their candy is my all time favourite. The Group has great many brands under its portfolio which includes the flagship E.I.D.Parry, Carborandum Universal, TI Cycles, Tube Investments India Ltd, Cholamandalam Finance, Coromandel International Ltd, Parry Agro to name a few. The Group had never failed to impress us all these years.
The event was scheduled at 11AM on 18/08/2014. The venue was Binny Room in Taj Connemara(now called Vivanta by Taj) near Spencer Plaza, Mount Road. I made sure that I was there well before the time.
The ambience was amazing. Theme was perfect and neat with proper lighting and well arranged chairs for dignitaries. I met the Social Team and they were glad that I was there. Slowly the hall was getting filled up with people from Media and Social Media. All were served water and fresh lime to start with. Soon, the hall was full.
People were curious what the event is all about and Mr M M Murugappan, the Vice Chairman of the Murugappa Group was invited to speak. He spoke for close to 10 minutes and touched upon lot of aspects during his crisp, precise and informative speech. He talked about the various activities that the Group has undertaken and also the need for the song. His speech was well received by all of us as it was Dynamic and Vibrant. He touched upon lot of aspects and all took the information with great pleasure. He did not fail to recognize each and every one who was in the making of the song. While briefing further he also said why the group decided to go with the song. It was because The Group wanted to give back to the Society since it thrived here and is their home. You can listen to his complete speech here:
Mr Ramesh K B Menon,Director – HR of the Murugappa Group was present along with the Vice Chairman.

He talked about the Group and enlightened us as to how EID Parry then was the first company to send a Telegram from Chennai and also has many firsts to its credit. When it came to the song itself, he informed us that this is the 4th Song that has been a tribute to Madras since 1911. You can listen to his speech here :

My Take on Song:
The wordings/Lyrics were simple and easily understandable. The Music was melodious and has used our traditional instruments like Nathaswaram which adds beauty to it. The picturization was pleasant capturing the essence of Madras and what adds beauty to the song was the mere presence of Personalities. When I started watching it, I was so much carried away by it that I never knew that it has ended and by the way, I has already watched it 20 times and feel like I am watching it for the first time every time I started watching it.
My take on Madras #MMQ
This is my home town and I feel proud in saying that because right since its formation, Madras has always been a prominent one in all aspects. This is home to many great personalities from the field of Sports, Trade, Commerce, Politics, Acting and many more. We always welcomed outsiders and made them thrive here. We were home to some of the world famous structures like CMBT, Marina Beach, Light House, Ice House, Memorials of Kamaraj,Arignar Anna, MGR,Vandalur Zoo, Egmore Museum, St Goerge Fort, Kapaleeswarar and Kalikambal Temple to name a few.
We have Shopping Malls and Hotels every where which serves and caters to customers of all kinds. The sheer smell of Coffee from a local outlet to a star hotel never failed to capture our taste sense and it is a bliss when you have it in the morning along with reading the newspaper.
We are people of many language, culture and customs but we all live and raise together from Madras. This is a beautiful place and this is my Home Town.
Hats Off to #TheMadrasSong which has captured the real essence of Madras…….
