S Hussain Zaidi: Terrorists misrepresent their faith and try to manipulate the minds of innocent people to commit awful crimes
Crossword Bookstores at Kemps Corner was buzzing with a large number of excited fans who had come for the launch of “Dangerous Minds” by noted author S Hussain Zaidi and Brijesh Singh on a Tuesday evening.
India’s number one crime writer who initially was an investigative journalist, joined hands with IPS officer Brijesh Singh, currently serving in Mumbai, to launch their latest piece of work which explores the minds of terrorists.
Actor Anil Kapoor, kept up his commitment as a professional despite news about a medical condition relating to his knee.
Maulik Desai, Business Head of Crossword Bookstores added, “ S. Hussain Zaidi’s books are bestsellers at Crossword Bookstores. His past books include Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, Black Friday, My Name is Abu Salem, Black Friday and Mumbai Avengers.”
The new book “Dangerous Minds” profiles masterminds and terror conspirators, involved in radicalising young minds. It delves into the complex and intricate lives of some of the most talked-about terrorists in the country and decodes their secret lives.
“In this book, I want to showcase the manner in which these terrorists misrepresent their faith and try to manipulate the minds of innocent people to commit awful crimes. They make attempts to radicalise society. I have made an effort to go into the minds of these individuals and on the factors that motivate them” said Hussain Zaidi.
And the people profiled in the book, do have horrifying secret lives!
Dr Jalees Ansari, a doctor from Malegaon involved in eighty blasts, including some on railway tracks, was supposed to be a quiet, peace-loving medical professional.
Fahmida Sayed, a housewife and mother of two from the Jogeshwari slums of north-west Mumbai, planted the bombs herself in a bus and taxis and returned home as if nothing had happened.
Mansoor Peerbhoy, a reticent techie, was a brilliant programmer by day and chief of the Indian Mujahideen media cell by night.
On the occasion Anil Kapoor said, “Who is not interested in Dangerous Minds? Everybody is interested in ‘Minds’. As an actor I too would like to read about those innocent looking people who are dark in real life and again lead a normal life at the very next moment”.
“I am from Mumbai and so are my readers. And for the audience to relate to the story I plan to write most of the stories from Mumbai. If I write about something which happened in Turkey or those areas, I don’t think people would be able to relate and this is the reason why I do not plan to write about something in International context” added Zaidi.
“With terrorism being very prevalent in the current scenario, it becomes quite easy for a police officer to write a criminal story as we look at each and everything as evidence,” said Brijesh Singh.
